Muy
pocos peruanos recuerdan o conocen que nuestro país fue parte de una Fuerza
disuasiva durante la cruenta guerra de Las Malvinas, en mayo de 1982.
No
habíamos superado aún los traumas y perdidas en conflicto de la Cordillera El
Cóndor, con fuerzas militares invasoras en nuestro territorio norte, cuando
surgió la desesperada llamada de ayuda de la República Argentina.
Gran
Bretaña envío frente a las Islas Malvinas una poderosa flota naval y aérea, y
destacamentos de tropas de asalto anfibias.
Mientras
el pedido argentino se atendía sin dilaciones, el alto mando de la Fuerza Aérea
del Perú, dispuso la selección de pilotos voluntarios.
Una
operación de máximo secretismo en la que todo era parte de notas breves entre
los involucrados.
Mayores
y capitanes pilotos de combate y expertos en aviones caza bombarderos Mirage 5
P, fueron reunidos y recibieron sus hojas de vuelo.
Se
pasó lista horas antes de partir a territorio argentino:

Mientras
otros oficiales como Crovetto, Arenas y Portillo partían hacia la Argentina.
El
4 de mayo de 1982 partieron de la base aérea de La Joya, AREQUIPA, los Mirage
5, y un avión L100 con la logística de Guerra Aérea.
Las
aeronaves eran parte de los escuadrones de combate 611 y 612.
La
operación militar secreta fue ordenada por el propio Presidente Fernando
Belaúnde Terry.
Aviones
peruanos a los cuales se maquillo con los colores celeste y blanco, pero el
corazón de los pilotos era rojo y blanco.

Very few Peruvians remember or know that our country was part of a dissuasive force during the bloody Las Malvinas war, in May 1982.
We had not yet overcome the traumas and lost in conflict of the Cordillera El Cóndor, with invading military forces in our northern territory, when the desperate call for help from the Argentine Republic arose.
Britain sent a powerful naval and air fleet and detachments of amphibious assault troops in front of the Malvinas Islands.
While the Argentine request was attended without delay, the high command of the Peruvian Air Force, ordered the selection of volunteer pilots.
An operation of maximum secrecy in which everything was part of brief notes among those involved.
Majors and captains fighter pilots and experts in Mirage 5 P fighter aircraft were assembled and received their flight sheets.
It was passed list hours before leaving to Argentine territory:

While other officials like Crovetto, Arenas and Portillo left for Argentina.
On May 4, 1982, they departed from the La Joya air base, AREQUIPA, the Mirage 5, and an L100 aircraft with the logistics of the Air War.
