Christy Brown fue un autor irlandés, pintor y poeta que tenía parálisis cerebral severa. Nacido en Crumlin, Dublín fue uno de los 13 niños sobrevivientes de los 22 nacidos en una familia católica. Estaba discapacitado por parálisis cerebral y por años fue incapaz de movimiento deliberado o lenguaje, y los médicos también le consideraba como discapacitado intelectual. Sin embargo, su madre siguió hablándole, trabajando con él y tratando de enseñarle. Un día, le arrancó un trozo de tiza a su hermana con su pie izquierdo para hacer una marca en una pizarra.

A la edad de cinco años, sólo su pie izquierdo respondía a su voluntad. Usando este pie fue capaz de comunicarse por primera vez. Él más conocido por su autobiografía “Mi pie izquierdo”, que más tarde fue una película del mismo nombre, premiada con un Oscar de la Academia. Christy Brown was an Irish author, painter and poet who had severe cerebral palsy. Born in Crumlin, Dublin was one of 13 surviving children of the 22 born in a Catholic family. He was disabled by cerebral palsy and for years was unable to deliberate movement or language, and doctors also considered him as intellectually disabled. However, his mother kept talking to him, working with him and trying to teach him. One day, he tore a piece of chalk from his sister with his left foot to make a mark on a blackboard.

At the age of five, only his left foot responded to his will. Using this foot he was able to communicate for the first time. He best known for his autobiography "My Left Foot", which was later a film of the same name, awarded an Oscar Academy Award. Brown used the "stream of consciousness" technique and captured the culture of Dublin in his use of humor, language and the unique description of the characters.
