Helen Adams Keller fue una escritora estadounidense, activista política y profesora. Fue la primera persona sorda y ciega en ganar un título de Bachelor of Arts. Helen Adams Keller was an American writer, political activist and teacher. She was the first deaf and blind person to win a Bachelor of Arts degree. The story of how Keller's teacher, Annie Sullivan, broke the isolation imposed by the almost total lack of language allowing the girl to flourish as she learned to communicate, is known throughout the world through dramatic representations of the work and the movie The Miracle Worker. Sullivan taught Helen to communicate by spelling the words in her hand, beginning with the word doll in reference to the doll she had brought as a gift. Hellen openly opposed the war, campaigned for women's suffrage, workers' rights, and socialism as well as for many other progressive causes. In 1920, he helped found the American Civil Liberties Union. Keller and Sullivan traveled through more than 39 countries. Keller met every US president from Grover Cleveland to Lyndon B. Johnson and was friends with several famous people, including Alexander Graham Bell, Charlie Chaplin, and Mark Twain.
